View Full Version : 2012 - the new 1997?

So what's the deal with 2012? I know it's linked to the Mayan calendar. And I also know that the Mayans were pretty smart.

But when I was growing up everyone always cited 1997 as the year there would be some cataclysm and, well, nothing that earth-shattering happened then?

Is 2012 gonna be any different? Not trying to rubbish anyone's beliefs here, just want to get a better understanding of what the discussion is about.

on same subject: I came across this documentary - ~ The Weavers (http://www.history-of-the-cathars.com)
some of the history checks out but again, just don't see what 2012 has to do with anything.

well, i have seen quite a few videos on this on youtube and google and such,
the mayans seem to think that 2012 will be the last year, "dec 12 2012" allot of there future seeing's have come true i will give them that and they are very smart people, allot of people now believe it to, i don't but i believe the bible, if you believe the bible then you will no that "Only the father knows when he is coming back" meaning jesus meaning the Rapture, so if you believe that then this is not even a discussion therefor No one knows when it will end or anything even in that category, so for sorta an answer i don't think that its true at all as far as 1997 i have not even ever heard of it so i am not sure i think it has to do with aliens coming back for a certain group of cult that sat on a hill and waited of something like that though.

I don't really buy the Mayan stuff. and I read somewhere else that the all the supposed science behind 2012 predictions is totally unreliable. So I'm pretty unconvinced by the case. even though 2012 does seem to crop up in the research i've done for my book (The Weaver Code: an ancient mystery solved by John W Balfour (http://www.theweavercode.com))
