When you want/need and are desperate for attention, you purposely create a situation that will assure the same, and, since you're a media darling, you get it.
So be it with the Wal-mart deal.
As if it didn't occur to them that releasing his greatest hits CD for sale at Wal-mart would go against everything this man supposedly represents to his fans.
Not that the rest of us care.
There was a feature article on Yahoo a few minutes ago about how the fans called him out on it and, you know, they were just so busy at the time they failed to remember about Wal-mart's poor business practices.
I'm not the only one feeling as if this exposure, exposure and over exposure is quite strange as evidenced on the following threads from BTX in "The Promised Land."
Talk about shoving him down every one's throats.
Sounds reminiscent of the year he appeared on the cover of News Week and Time Magazines.
On another note, the Super Bowl people didn't contact the Springsteen camp. It was the other way around.

This one is humorous:
Bruce Springsteen - NJ.com ... s_may.html
"So far, Bruce only offered this bizarre description of how he's going to perform the set:
"We want it to be a 12-minute party," he said. "The idea of the show is, you are going to the Meadowlands, you get lost on the way. You are watching your clock, 'Damn, the show is starting right now.' You stop at a bar to get some directions, and the bar gets held up while you are there. So that takes another 45 minutes to get out of there.
"You come back and you miss your exit on the turnpike, and you are driving to get back around. And so you make it into the stadium 2 hours and 48 minutes into the show -- that's what you are going to see: the last 12 minutes."
That made no sense to me. I have no idea what that means. Should we expect a bunch of gunmen to hold up the audience during the halftime show, followed by a barroom brawl?"

Have you noticed it's sacrilegious for the media to write anything negative about Springsteen without saying they're a fan, but....
What?
Is he GOD?
Oh, no.
I forgot.
He's "The Boss" and during his Super Bowl press conference, I heard he referred to himself as such about a half dozen times.
Another recent Yahoo article, Springsteen is considered the 2nd best old rocker.
Neil Young took first.
Oh, and Springsteen was crowned the "rock laureate" today by another writer.
The accolades just keep coming.
Wonder when he and Scialfa will be crowned America's Duke/Duchess and/or the Prince/Princess of rock pornography.

Imagine that. A negative without a positive.
