Iraqi Resistance Stories May be 'Too Good to be True'
Hey, true! I remember discussing the veracity of certain websites' info on dead American soldiers in Iraq and Jihad Unspun came up.
This report supports your point that these sites are almost total certainty Zionist/Mossad propaganda fronts.
You seem to have been right. Acknowledging that fact. ;-)

Arabs themselves doubt reports
Some Arab Americans are beginning to doubt the authenticity of four Arab websites reporting on attacks by the Iraqi resistance.
Sources such as <a href="http://www.freearabvoice.org/">Free Arab Voice</a>, possibly based in North America, <a href="http://iraqwar.mirror-world.ru/">Iraq War Mirror</a>, from Russia, Quds Press, based in London, and <a href="http://www.islammemo.cc/">Islam Memo</a>. Islam Memo originates from a leisurely paradise called the Cocos Islands in the middle of nowhere in the Indian Ocean, within the sphere of influence of Australia.
Arab linguistic Institute has doubts
Iraqi resistance stories are supposedly translated from Arabic to English and Arabic to Russian by an "Arab" named Muhammad Abu Nasr.
Those of us who know languages marvel at Abu Nasr's perfect command of Arabic, English and Russian (or perhaps it is his "editorial board" that has enough talent to fix up his reports so perfectly).
But just as we begin to wonder whether Abu Nasr is really who he says he is, his reputation is thoughtfully bolstered by our own <a href="http://usinfo.state.gov/media/Archive/2005/Apr/08-205989.html">State Department</a>: "A Trio of Disinformers: Islam Memo, Muhammad Abu Nasr, and Jihad Unspun"
And what good is a resistance without the face of a leader to demonize?
Bad guy Ayman Al-Zawahiri, who has variously been reported killed or captured throughout the Muslim world, has emerged to lead the resistance.
In a recent analysis of Zawahiri's "speech," another Arab commentator, Waleed Nour of the Cocos Islands website praises Al-Qaeda for becoming decentralized and escalating its strikes in Afghanistan, Iraq, London and the Sinai.
The man with nine lives, Zawahiri, is the right man at the right time to hand Bush, Blair and Sharon all they need to ramp up their <a href="http://www.islammemo.cc/taqrer/one_news.asp?IDnews=474">unpopular occupation</a> of Arab lands and theft of Arab treasures
Let's examine a recent <a href="http://iraqwar.mirror-world.ru/article/59024">"Iraqi Resistance operations report"</a> by these same people
August 4, 2005.
"Resistance mounts heavy attack on US column leaving 21 Americans dead or wounded Thursday in al-Hadithah area. In a dispatch posted at 7:50pm Mecca time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters ambushed a column of five armored vehicles and four Humvees in the al-Jazirah area on the road that links al-Hadithah with Bayji to the northeast.
"Residents of the al-Jazirah area told Mafkarat al-Islam that about 20 Iraqi Resistance fighters detonated a bomb that they had planted by the side of the road leading to al-Hadithah as a US column was passing by.
"The blast destroyed one Humvee. Resistance fighters then fired eight 82mm mortar rounds into the column, disabling one armored vehicle and destroying a second Humvee. The correspondent said that Resistance fighters then directly attacked the column, with light and medium weapons and pipe rockets, destroying another American armored vehicle. About 21 American troops were dead or wounded by the end of the engagement, the correspondent reported.
"Witnesses reported that one Iraqi Resistance fighter was martyred during the attack and another was wounded but was able to withdraw with the other Resistance men before the American reinforcements arrived on the scene together with their vehicles and helicopters. The US forces then encircled the area and hauled away their wrecked vehicles and the bodies of their dead and wounded."
Who are these 'Mystery Witnesses'?
Are we to believe that this story comes from local residents, talking freely to a "reporter" whose headquarters are based in the resort Cocos Islands? Such reporters cannot safely travel in Iraq, even if they are Arabs. And why would local residents trust these outsiders and talk to them?
And Mafkarat al-Islam reporters have the uncanny luck to witness every explosion and every combat with the "resistance," something American journalists would only dream of.
What kind of high-tech equipment would they need to send their "dispatches" from places that do not have water or electricity almost as soon as they happen, and wouldn't this activity be so cumbersome that they would come to the attention of occupation forces who they never talk to in any of their reports?
Kids that drink water from ditches have Internet?
One would think the US military would have full control over internet access in Iraq. Therefore, how are the resistance dispatches sent out in such a timely way?
How is it that these "reporters" and villagers can identify military vehicles and munitions so precisely? Ex., who planted the bomb, what it hit, what munitions the "resistance" fired, and what the American response was. Journalists know any two witnesses will never get their stories identical. What luck that our website journalists happened onto "residents" with such gifts for matching details.
Not only are the Iraqi residents merchants and farmers and housewives and schoolchildren, they apparently also are doctors and nurses with the American military, for how else would they know the exact number--21--enemy forces maimed or killed? Did American Marines move onto the town square to die and be counted in plain sight of the residents?
Compare this to the NY Times coverage a day later, August 5, where the source is not in Iraq but is an American military officer in Washington.
Does this mean that the US military is briefing these websites, too?
Who Is Really Reporting These Stories With Such Detail?
Could it be that the reports on the Arab websites are written by contractors with CACI or Titan who are "cooking meals and taking care of the laundry" for the American troops? Are these contractors emailing the "stories" to friends lounging in the tropics?
And why would Arabists in our own State Department fall for such questionable websites to the extent they would take them seriously, and then denounce them?
Israel is known to create <a href="http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/fakealqaeda.html">fake "Al-Qaeda"</a> websites (along with fake "Al-Qaeda" cells)
But why would Israel be interested in creating the illusion of a powerful Iraqi resistance?
Well, some Marines who are back from Iraq on leave have told friends that they did not believe that Iraqis were behind the ambushes and bombings. The Marines suspect Israeli contractors with inside information about the movement of troops.
And where would the Israelis get such top secret US military information? Just read the <a href="http://www.antiwar.com/rep2/FranklinSupersedingIndictment.pdf">AIPAC indictment</a> . Israelis have people inside the Pentagon. It is doubtful resistance ringleader Zawahiri has similar moles.
So these "Arab" websites report about imaginary "insurgents" who kill the Marines. "Residents of the al-Jazirah area told Mafkarat al-Islam that about 20 Iraqi Resistance fighters detonated a bomb." Well, powerful complex military shape charges (apparently made in Israel) are difficult for one Arab to improvise as IED (improvised explosive device). But maybe 20 Arabs can put their brains and skills together and make it.
In the 80's, Muslim Brotherhood "news sources" kept announcing in their leaflets and on Arab radio stations that their "resistance fighters" were executing successful operations against oppressive Arab government soldiers. No such operations took place and the "news sources" did not even have access to the locations they were reporting about.
The Muslim Brotherhood was "tolerated" by Arab governments because it was creating mythical excuses to justify "counter-terrorist" crackdowns on Arab citizens. Moreover, the Muslim Brotherhood created the myth of Al-Qaeda for the benefit of the "global war on terror," twenty years later. Agents provocateurs, indeed.
It is more likely that real insurgents in Iraq would only kill collaborators. Real resistance fighters would engage occupiers OUTSIDE towns, away from their homes, if they would engage directly at all.
For all the reasons outlined, these reports seem too good to be true.
Americans must understand 'Retribution'
Deliberate provocation of a heavily armed occupation force is usually suicidal. It is not the act of people whose families live in the area that will suffer the retribution sure to follow.
Many Americans prefer to think that the Iraqis are putting up a tough resistance. Such Americans identify with the victims of American aggression and have done so in every war since WW II. They are the same people who think suicide bombing is justified.
They talk endlessly about the reasons or the logic behind suicide bombing and suicidal resistance but they fail to make a case for the reality of such actions. It doesn't matter how many good reasons you can find for people to commit suicide terrorism if there is no suicide terrorism.
Jabbing a Tiger With a Stick
Of the hundreds of stories of "suicide bombers" among the Palestinians, one sticks in my mind and is relevant to the issue of jabbing a tiger with a stick. A young Palestinian mother of two was said to have blown herself up. The first response of her family was to run to their home to remove their belongings because they knew it was standard practice of the Israelis to demolish the family homes of people accused of terrorism.
We See A Picture, But Is It real?
Most pictures will have clues that they are staged.
The Daughters Face Certain Execution
Beyond the fact that she was leaving two young children without a mother she was setting her family up for ruination.
People seeking vengeance don't compound the damage that has been done to them and their families by inviting certain retribution, including the deaths of their family members.
Cyte is correct in judging Iraqi resistance by asking the same questions he asks regarding the mythical suicide bomber. The stories come from the same source, are useful to their originators in the same way and should be doubted for the same reasons. No matter how much we wish to see a ruined people stand up to a Goliath, it is subjective and romantic nonsense to believe that it is anything but an exceedingly rare occurrence, if it happens at all.
Re: Iraqi Resistance Stories May be 'Too Good to be True'
Of course I'm right DRAK.
It's taken you this long to work it out? :-D
You should really never question me.:-x
I'm going through a..."I dont trust anyone anymore stage".
The Yanks are incompetent at times...but not ALL the time. I would not be keen to be taking them on even in the best of urban warfare type conditions.
IED's are the weapon of choice because they give the Insurgency the chance of living to fight another day. Take on the Yanks in the open and you're fucked to be quite frank.
You've set the article out quite neatly. 10 points for structure.
Re: Iraqi Resistance Stories May be 'Too Good to be True'
Of course there is propaganda from both sides. But when you have 100,000 dying in one side and less than 2,000 in the other, and a totally unjustified, coward stealing of a country, even propaganda doesn`t make much of a difference.
Of course the Americans will never be driven out of Iraqi, unless the depleted uranium story is true and the country lies in waste anyway.
