Why are some things actually illegal and others arent?
There have been debates and debates for decades now, of whether or not what should be what. Marijuana, alchohol, cigarettes, it was all illegal at some point in time. Come to think of it, they are putting more and more bans on cigarettes and tobacco. To be honest, why do you people even smoke it anyways? It smells like shit, looks like shit, gives you cancer, on top of that we all know that companies lace their cigarettes with all forms of shit like rat poisoning and such. Yet, still legal, still smoked. It makes no sense. But, they are putting more bans down, so watch out smokers. They are putting more bans on alchohol too, just to keep everything more controlled. They wont dare to try and make alchohol illegal again, they have already learned their lesson from last time. Prohibition=a big mistake. If you think about it though, Alchohol is only legal because its too popular, the country could not control itself. Seriously, there were mob wars for the control of alchohol trade, between Rocco Peri and Al Capone, Alchohol was illegal and the people wanted it and were willing to pay for it, the day its legalized, crime fell dramatically, the alchohol trade was their foundation. Then there are cigarettes, Cigarettes have been legal for so long because of the profit made from them, it was crazy, u put a cigarette anywhere on television in the day, people would buy cigarettes. That was demanding commercialism for u, the corporation abused these addictions. That is why showing a cigarette on television isnt allowed anymore because the governement is promoting good health. Now were left with marijuana, marijuana was only legal after that famous speech in the 1930s by Henry Hearst, he despised hemp because he worked in the timber industry and hemp had a great potential for replacing trees in making paper. The other reason he hated marijuana was a little bit personal but I got a kick out of it. It was stories of marijuana making Mexicans rape white men that made Henry a little jumpy, he hated mexicans. Here is a clipping from his journalism, "By the tons it is coming into this country — the deadly, dreadful poison that racks and tears not only the body, but the very heart and soul of every human being who once becomes a slave to it in any of its cruel and devastating forms…. Marihuana is a short cut to the insane asylum. Smoke marihuana cigarettes for a month and what was once your brain will be nothing but a storehouse of horrid specters. Hasheesh makes a murderer who kills for the love of killing out of the mildest mannered man who ever laughed at the idea that any habit could ever get him….” I dont agree with a single thing said there, marijuana doesnt make you kill people, or rape people, or barely do anything with anyone at all. You mellow right out, and mind ur own business. Its like being handed the key to your happy place. Just like cigarettes, it helps sustain stress, just like alchohol, with marijuana you can learn to let loose a little. but unlike cigarettes and alchohol, marijuana does not cause cancer, marijuana does not cause liver or kidney failure, marijuana doesnt do anything but show you a good time. Marijuana wont kill anyone ever, unless your stupid and jump in front of a train, but thats when I dont think it was marijuana you smoked. But seriously, marijuanna is used to help treat cancer patient, those with leukemia, eye problems, heart problems, need weight gain, etc. I believe, marijuana should be legalized, but taxed and measured. Just like alchohol and cigarettes, alchohol only got out because of the frequency of crime with it, marijuana wasnt as lucky back then. If the government set up better, legal deals with marijuana, and taxed it and controlled it. Alot of people would not end up into the deeper stuff like cocaine and meth, they would have a supply and not get in trouble for it. I believe that would bring down crime rates tremendously (refer to prohibition). Their eyes would be averted, the government would get its money and citizens back, hard drugs would just someday, disappear. They would become nothing, dead to the world. Marijuanna would do great things for this world if only given a chance. I know this is a bad source for evidence, but family guy had a good episode, this is the part to focus on tho, Mayor West passes a law to legalize marijuana, and everyone starts smoking it. Brian points out that the town has improved as a result, with a decrease in crime, an increase in productivity and Doctor Who ratings shooting up. Even Peter is too wasted to make up a cutaway gag. However, Lois's father, Carter, is losing money in the timber industry now that marijuana is being used to manufacture everything, and he bribes Peter into helping him produce videos as part of an anti-marijuana campaign." Bad source, i know, but at least they got their facts straight and shows how marijuanna really did become illegal. But still, why should that have to be illegal when there are drunk drivers and drunk people that are a danger to others as they are themselves. Drunk people have strictly and completely less control over themselves than a little pothead would. You still shouldnt toke and drive, but I think itd be a lil better than being drunk behind the wheel.
Re: Why are some things actually illegal and others arent?
Great article! I just wanted to put a diferant spin on this statement:
"Then there are cigarettes, Cigarettes have been legal for so long because of the profit made from them, it was crazy, u put a cigarette anywhere on television in the day, people would buy cigarettes. That was demanding commercialism for u, the corporation abused these addictions. That is why showing a cigarette on television isnt allowed anymore because the governement is promoting good health"
In my opinion the government could care less about your health or mine? They block the commercialism of cigarettes because they dislike the expense involved in treating sickness caused by cigarette smoking. Remember whenever the government is involved it's ALL about the money.
There are many accusations of the CIA and other high end agencies actually dealing drugs such as marawanna (pardon my spelling lol) and cocaine and even other illegal substances for profit? Maybe that is why they won't legalize these drugs? They don't want the competion ?
