Is ANY Country Safe In The Middle East - Now Lebanon Is Up For It?

Now poor old Lebanon...now they're being naughty too. Is their ANY country in the region NOT aiding terrorists? Who else can be blamed for the Iraq fuck up?

I hear the Insurgents are also writing bad words on the bombs before planting them. Scoundrels!

The use of IEDs in Iraq: the Lebanese connection

By Nicholas Blanford JDW Correspondent
Beirut

Insurgents in Iraq are employing armour-piercing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) similar to those used by the Hizbullah organisation in Lebanon. The IEDs are claiming a growing number of casualties among coalition forces.

The UK government has accused Iran of supplying allied Iraqi groups with the advanced IEDs, which appear to be a new generation of the version first adopted by Hizbullah guerrillas fighting Israel Defence Force (IDF) troops in south Lebanon in the late 1990s.

The emergence of shaped-charge armour-piercing bombs in Iraq is an alarming development for the US-led coalition, which is struggling to devise effective countermeasures to defeat the rapidly evolving IEDs. At least six UK personnel have been killed in recent months in IED attacks carrying the hallmarks of shaped-charge explosives. The bombs first appeared in southern Iraq in the hands of Shia Muslim militants but have since spread to Sunni insurgent groups further north.

No effective countermeasure has been devised to protect troops from these devices, according to a British Army officer experienced in manufacturing and neutralising the IEDs. The technology to construct such weapons has been around for many years and did not necessarily have to come from Iran or Hizbullah, the officer told JDW.

And lets not forget those evil Iranians and Syria...up to mischeif again! Will they ever learn? I hear they also sware alot when building their evil WMD factories of death...really bad language. They are really bad people...and they beat their wives...and kids and often the family dog cops a lashing. Clearly invasion is the only option.

Iran aids Syria's CW programme

By Robin Hughes JDW Middle East Editor
London

With the release of the UN International Independent Investigation Commission interim report on 20 October into the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri increasing international pressure on Syria, a diplomatic source has said that Damascus is nevertheless pursuing what they describe as "an innovative chemical warfare [CW] programme in co-operation with Iran".

The essence of this co-operation, the source told JDW, "is Tehran's contractual commitment, made to Syria a few months ago, to provide Iranian CW technical assistance to facilitate Syria's CW programme".

Utilising this assistance, they said, Syria hopes to reach an independent production capability of precursors for producing CW agents, which it has so far been unable to achieve.

According to the source, Iran will assist Syria in the planning, establishment and pilot operation of about four or five facilities throughout Syria for the production of precursors for VX and Sarin nerve agents and mustard blister agent.

"This project is unprecedented and millions of US dollars have been allocated to implement it," the source said.

"The project includes building major facilities, including advanced equipment to produce tens to hundreds of tonnes of CW precursors per year that are sufficient for CW industrial manufacturing pilot production."

And this is how the naughty ones of the Middle East are going to have their weapons of death destroyed...ironically by another nasty WMD that apparently no one is allowed to have...how ironic!

US plans new warheads

Evidence is emerging that the programme to maintain the safety and reliability of the US nuclear weapons stockpile will be adapted for the design and future development of a new class of warheads. Approval is also expected for the US Department of Defence's evolving pre-emptive strategy, which the new weapons would be a part of. Critics see the new guidelines as moving towards an increasing role for nuclear weapons in US war planning and the strategy's public disclosure encouraging rather than discouraging proliferation at a time when the crisis surrounding Iran and North Korea's nuclear programmes persist.

Under the Reliable Replacement Warhead (RRW) programme created by Republican Congressman David Hobson of Ohio in the fiscal 2005 Consolidated Appropriations Bill, reliability and longevity of existing weapons and their components is to be improved. The RRW was intended to allow only existing weapons to be renovated without developing new systems that would require underground testing.

Hobson and others have persistently opposed the Bush administration's efforts to develop new nuclear weapons to eliminate deeply buried hard targets (DBHTs) harbouring arsenals of chemical and biological weapons (CBW) possessed by states or terrorists. The RRW was therefore set up as a compromise to maintain stewardship while engaging the nuclear weapons laboratories in challenging research and engineering problems. So far the US legislature has blocked funding for initiatives to develop new weapons.

Proves to me that the war on terror is a neat cover story for a whole lot more. Doesn't make it any less valid.
