At the corner of Petaluma Boulevard and Western Avenue sits an imposing three-story Victorian Italianate, which is the home of the Petaluma Masonic Lodge. Constructed in 1882, the building's exterior features are made of cast iron, and it is the eastern anchor of the Western Avenue Ironfront Row.

What is not to understand?

The eye in the pyramid is not nor has it ever been a Masonic symbol.


The misinterpretation of the American seal and symbol as a Masonic emblem may have been first introduced a century later in 1884. Harvard Professor Eliot Norton wrote that the reverse was 'practically incapable of effective treatment; it can hardly, (however artistically treated by the designer), look otherwise than as a dull emblem of a Masonic fraternity.


Interpreting the Symbol = As on dollar bill.

The "Remarks and Explanations" of Thomson and Barton are the only explanation of the symbols' meaning. Despite what anti-Masons may believe, there's no reason to doubt the interpretation accepted by the Congress.

The Pyramid signified Strength and Duration: The Eye over it & the Motto allude to the many signal interpositions of providence in favor of the American cause

The All Seeing Eye is quite commonly used to depict a deity and other strange things.

Some examples:

During an apparition of the Virgin Mary at the village of Garabandal, she was supposedly seen next to a flaming Eye in a Pyramid.

According to UFO witnesses, there have been sightings of Men in Black wearing the symbol , sometimes with a lightning bolt through the eye, on their cars or lapels.

The Vietnamese religion Cao Dai, as well as a number of other churches, uses the Eye of Providence (specifically, the left eye) within a triangle to represent God.


The most common use for the All Seeing Eye is to represent God, as he is all seeing, and all knowing.

In this article, the eye in the triangle is above a Masonic Temple. It is similar to that which we use so we wondered after its present meaning. we are aware of Osiris and his son Horus.
