6.8 Earthquake Hits East Africa.
 

To my knowledge (which is poor in terms of geology), there are no tectonic plates running through Africa, so how is this possible?

"A powerful earthquake toppled homes onto children in eastern Congo Monday, leaving an unknown number of casualties in a region already beset by war, poverty and volcanoes."


"Celestin Kasereka Mahinda, an official at the Goma volcano observatory, said the quake could affect volcano activity."

Natural resources, mainly... Africa is rich in them (gold, diamonds, oil, etc).. as well as a testing ground for new WMDS..

It appears that there is *some* tectonic activity in this region, ongoing.. it's part of that East Africa "Rift Valley".. it's just not a very active plate:

Ever hear of the East African Rift? There is plenty of geologic activity in Africa, includeing a couple of volcanos.
