Hitler Printing His Own Money
 

I've been doing some reading on WWII, and I've come across a couple references that claim Hitler began printing his own money shortly before the outbreak of hostilities.

However, I can't track down the precise time and manner in which Hitler did this.. Does anyone have more information on this topic??

I recall reading something about Hitler printing

his own money and I believe it was the US dollar

to pay his troops ... and I vaguely recall that

freaked out Hitler's US and British backers ...

I also recall a TV special that claimed that

Hitler hid his flawless US printers in some

isolated lake ... I will post the source if I

find it.

I do recall reading that somewhere. You might have some luck including Lincoln and Kennedy in any google search because they printed money as well.

thanks, but these articles address something entirely different.. the talk about the inflation of the Mark during the Wiemar Republic. This inflation was over by 1923.. Hitler didn't come to power until 1933, and I don't think he started printing/coining his own money until maybe 37 or 38, although that's where my sources are unreliable and I'm looking for more info.

Hitler did begin to print his own money, but the sources are very scarce.. I'm still looking..

During World War II, Hitler forced skilled slave laborers in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp outside Berlin to produce fiendishly accurate copies of British 20- and 50-pound sterling notes, and, toward the war's end, American $100 bills.

Billions in the phony sterling notes were circulated in the British Empire or paid to agents serving the Nazis abroad. Although some were eventually recovered from chests on the bottom of Austria's Lake Toplitz, where Hitler's minions sank them just before the Allied victory of 1945, many never were discovered. British bankers have acknowledged that the bogus sterling caused some trouble to the postwar British monetary system.

To be honest, I wasn't quite looking for this.. I was under the impression that Hitler had undertaken "legal" money coining operations at some point too, but the counterfeiting operations are very interesting as well..
