Self Defence: Is it WRONG?

"13:10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints."

This is quite a controversial topic. :-?

Naturally, I would say that it is OK to defend yourself and your loved ones against evil man.

The Bible seems to disagree. Frankly, that seems a bit nuts to me.

I imagine, who would just stand there and watch horrible things happen to their family and friends? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!
Maybe we should be considering the possibility that the passage in Rev 13:10 is either a misunderstanding or a perversion of the truth.
And maybe not.

I think that the passage in Rev. is a prophetic echo of many of the Psalms which proclaim God's vengeance against oppressors in powerful positions.

As for "Turning the other cheek", Jesus didn't say, "And if a man attacks you with an AK-47, just lie down and let him turn you into swiss cheese . . ."

I think that Jesus was talikng about not returning a mean-spirited assault during debate or in a social context in order to serve a higher purpose. If you are discussing religion and someone loses it and smacks you, just stay calm and focussed on the important matters, right?

In fact when our modern police see two people in mutual engagement of hostilities, there is rarely any recourse for the first victim.

But It Was In "Self Defense" - :-o :-o :-o

If a fierce dog comes charging on to you, your reaction would most likely be to defend your body by any means necessary. So, by the same token, if a man comes charging on to you like a fierce dog, your reaction would most likely be to defend your body by any means necessary. Thatís just a natural reaction.

Thank God for "Freedom Of Speech"...
8-)

Thats what Im thinking... A natural reaction.

As my father once told me 'If its wrong to defend myself, Ill pay, but God should at least tell me first! Otherwise I say to them, dont f**k with me.' Hes Irish! :-)

Bouncer, I also think of when Jesus said 'I could call down a legion of angels', when facing his imminent capture. He would have fought, if it wasnít his path to be crucified.

Did Jesus CHRIST kindly and politely and meekly ask the money changers (bankers) to leave the great temple. His Temple. If any think Christ advocated his followers or those who he saves to be abused then look at the King James again. Jesus CHRIST, GOD INCARNATE, whipped the money changers until they fled before a mighty man and a mighty GOD.
