Many of us are operating on general assumptions of goodwill among society. For many, they need to think positively in order to maintain their sanity.
Reminds me of another great quote:

Obviously, there is a sort of nobility in that kind of thinking, as long as it doesn't completely obscure reality.
Maybe Buckminister Fuller said it best:
"You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."

The existing reality for us is that most of the sheeple cannot accept reality; therefore we must forge ahead with the implicit understanding that they will soon be obsolete.
