Dick Supthen describes sharing some of the truth to gain confidence as the "Yes set". The yes set is used to lull the audience into a false sense of security; that is when the con game really takes off, as you noted.
You will also notice that whenever a child porn ring is broken, the members begin to die, ostensibly by suicide, but most likely for the purposes of damage control. I've got a hunch that the media are ready to test the conspiracy theory waters, and I hope that it is soon. Let's get ready for the next Franklin Cover-Up, but without the cover-up!
