Yes, we need to take care of those who cannot care for themselves, but this can best done on a local, not global, level.

People have not been able to come up with a fair and equitable system on a mass level that takes care of everyone. Socialist countries try to do this, but they sacrifice religion and family as being at the center of any healthy community.

Mother Teresa once had this to say about the subject:

"God has created us to do small things with great love. I believe in that great love, that comes, or should come from our heart, should start at home: with my family, my neighbors across the street, those right next door. And this love should then reach everyone."
