No one is ever attacked for no reason. The ultimate reason for the war is the control of the country's resources. It is not a religious war, because now the socalled Muslim government is attacking other Muslims. There can be a strong point made that it is a race war of Arabs against Blacks, but the surrounding Black countries appear to be supporting the Arab government. At any rate, this appears to be an ongoing saga in most African countries.
