There is a probability that Henri was looking for a way to disappear because of the circumstances you mention, OD: he had the means, opportunity, and (I believe) the motive to stage the accident (thereby getting the BIG PAYOFF from the journalists) but simply didn't anticipate the enormous aftermath of the attempt. Also, no one has explored the possibility of lethal trauma inflicted on the victims AFTER the accident but before the resue services arrived . . . :-o
