Remember that in Egypt the Pharaoh adamantly opposed Moses through most of the miraculous plagues, but finally relented at the death of the firstborn. And yet, Pharaoh foolishly sent his army after Israel, even through a corridor with water heaped up on both sides ready to fall on them! This is what's known as "Eyes wide shut" because of blind hatred, blind ambition, blind pride, etc.
The moral of this story is: they shoulda voted Democrat.
