Yes and apart from that, peaceful, contented, self-sufficient people are less likely to be manipulated and tempted through greed, pride, lust for power, etc.
This is the reason for what I call the Continuum of Control: social engineering on a mass scale through the media, etc., will eventually macerate the minds and wills of the people, making them easier to control and oppress, or so the theory goes.
Its simplicity belies the engineers' superficial and unspiritual grasp of the human will and soul, thank God.
