Winner of the International Critics' Prize at the Toronto Film Festival," "DEATH OF A PRESIDENT" is conceived as a fictional TV documentary broadcast in 2008, reflecting on another monstrously despicable and cataclysmic event: the assassination of President George W. Bush on October 19th, 2007. The "documentary" combines archival footage and carefully composed interviews, presented in a respectful and dignified manner. Exciting and questioning, it refashions the event into a riveting story.
The film opens with the ferocious energy of a Tarantino or Oliver Stone movie, as frenetically edited archival footage thrusts us into a raging crowd of protesters, waiting for President Bush's procession. The President is portrayed as a sympathetic and likable man—beloved by those close to him and charming to his followers. As the President gives a patriotic speech inside a hotel, the demonstrators' fury increases to the breaking point. The tension mounts until the horrible instant where the President is assassinated.
After the assassination, the film shifts into the style of a mystery, and follows the FBI's hunt for the assassin. All the suspects are interviewed except one—the Syrian man who is convicted and put on death row. There is much circumstantial evidence against him. But is he guilty of the crime? Or does his being Middle Eastern provide a convenient excuse to label the death of the President as an Act of Terror?
Director Gabriel Range previously used the device of a "retrospective documentary" in his celebrated 2003 film "The Day Britain Stopped," about a chain of events that led to a breakdown of the country's transport system and nearly a hundred fatalities. Both of these films have been acclaimed for the technical virtuosity with which they combine archival footage and filmed scenes to create disturbingly real visions of catastrophes.
"Death of a President" was honored by The International Critics Prize Jury (FIPRESCI) at Toronto for "the audacity with which it distorts reality, to reveal a larger truth." ... (more)

An unknown gunman assassinates George W. Bush. A couple of years later, an investigative documentary is made. It features all the people involved that fateful day: the protestors outside a Chicago hotel; the suspects in the shooting and their families; the Secret Service men who failed to protect their charge; the press; and an array of experts, desperately seeking meaning in this horrible act of violence. We learn, agonizingly, what happened to America… after the death of a president.
This is easily the most dangerous and breathtakingly original film I have encountered this year. Director Gabriel Range’s 2003 project The Day Britain Stopped – which asked what might happen if Britain’s transportation grid was suddenly halted – was his first experiment with this style. He assembles a vast array of media, manipulating and subtly altering it to act as a continuous background illustration of falsified history – and then employs the conventional, after-the-fact style of History Television and its ilk as narration.
But it’s a long leap from Britain’s trains to a gunned-down Commander-in-Chief. Range is up to the task: collaborating with some of the finest special effects wizards in the world, he inserts his characters seamlessly into existing footage. His narrative is also airtight. Cautionary tales are too often flights of fancy; as they push the envelope of credibility, the lessons gleaned from dark speculation become somehow tarnished. Not here. Every moment is completely believable, every comment is somehow appropriate – to the point of chilling, horrifying certainty.
As one might expect, Range is ultimately interested in addressing today’s political issues through the lens of the future. Xenophobia, the hidden costs of war and the nature of civil liberties in a hyper-media age all come under the microscope. The film is never a personal attack on Bush; Range simply seeks to explore the potential consequences that might follow from the President’s policies and actions.
It is the very technique of D.O.A.P., finally, that poses the most haunting questions of all. Not only do we feel the authenticity of mass media imagery slipping away, but Range suggests that his manipulation is merely a more radical example of what we encounter every day.

Anyone notice the day Bush dies in the movie? 10-19. What do we get? 911. How many days did the inside job that was the Madrid train bombing happen after 9-11? 911 days to be exact. On the four year (I believe) anniversary of 9-11, what was the set of a new york (i believe) lottery? Yep. 911 again. Here is some other numerology relating to 9-11.
On another note, remember how Toronto was almost nuked this year? And how the Toronto star in 2005 had an artist's rendition of what Toronto would look like if it was nuked? Only people like Captain Eric May, Tom Heneghan, and cloakanddagger and others who are literate enough to decode the media were picking up on this.

So what are the implications of this film? What would the assassination of George W. Bush accomplish? Could Chertoff step in as dictator is Bush was killed?
I have been talking to an internet comrade of mine and he's all about the jesuits who control masonic talmudic jews as he claims. He says this is all part of the dance to get the Republicans out and the Democrats in next election. Why is the media always criticizing Bush? Why is he taking the blame for 9-11 when it wasn't all his doing? Why are his mispronounciations, choking on foods always being made light of?
As my comrade says, when you come from a black nobility family like the Bushes (who can link up to Charlemagne and Alexander the Great and Genghis Kahn apparently), and you're a failure like George W. Bush, they look down on you. They will make sure everyone knows you're a failure. Kind of like how the media continued to shine on Clinton for sexual indiscretions. Although I think that was more to shine light away from the dirty tricks he played when he was leader of Arkansas which ranged from bribery to even murder. Clinton is a Rockefeller and a Rhodes Scholar and went to a Jesuit university and was taught by Carroll Quigley who wrote TRAGEDY AND HOPE exposing the elite and their front groups like the CFR.
It's all so interesting how many people who would like to call themselves conspiracy theorists and serious 9-11 investigators will admit that Bush is an idiot that he is a buffoon, dropped out of college, etc, and yet out of the other side of their mouth say that he could perpetuate 9-11 on his own and start and help maintain a war that is supposed to last one hundred years. Unfuckingbelievable.
These stupid "Bush did it" "Bush did 9-11" people like Dylan Avery who is either a jew or worked with a jew on LOOSE CHANGE and refuse to admit the Zionist role that Bollyn has exposed (and paid highly for it), get promoted in Vanity Fair. A mainstream (and therefore controlled) rag. Coincidence? No way.
