I take it that this could mean two things.

(1) Shadow is probably not The Devil because IT
appears to be much smarter than Shadow.

(2) You believe The Devil to be SMART.

I believe that whomever is POSING as The Devil is smart in a devious and deceptive way. IMO, a controller/handler. And, a very angry one at that.
