One slightly unsettling thought is that any one of us could be employed by a company owned by organised crime and part funded by laundered drugs money.

In such a position of power and privilege would such persons be tempted to abuse their power?

I strongly think so.

Look how organised crime worked through the trade unions for example.

The first step is to get one of your men into the union and work his way to the top through bribery. Once the union leadership has been corrupted and controlled by the mob, it can then be used to intimidate the industry concerned through the threat of strike action. Finally the corrupt trade union leadership does a secret no-strike deal with the management of the corporation for the appropriate fees giving the corporation the chance to force down wages and conditions.
