Obama, Cameron set new Russia sanctions deadline

BRUSSELS (AP) — President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron laid down a new deadline for Russia on Thursday, giving Moscow a month to meet their conditions in Ukraine or face further sanctions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, the focus of intensifying diplomatic activity this week, didn't immediately respond to the new conditions. Sustained violence in eastern Ukraine is driving a frenzy of high-level meetings in Brussels, Paris and Normandy aimed at reconciling Russia and Ukraine.
Putin is holding his first face-to-face meetings with Western leaders: Cameron and French President Francois Hollande on Thursday night, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday. There's hope that Putin could also talk with Ukraine's new president-elect.
Obama and Cameron spelled out new demands for Russia at a joint news conference after a Group of Seven world leader summit. Putin was meant to have hosted the summit in Sochi, but the G-7 countries cancelled that after his aggressive moves in Ukraine, and met without him in Brussels.
It was the group's first summit in two decades without the participation of Russia.
The U.S. and Europe, after imposing economic sanctions on Russia in recent months, are considering toughening them.
To avoid even harsher sanctions, Cameron said Putin must meet three conditions: recognize Petro Poroshenko's election as the new leader in Kiev, stop arms from crossing the border and cease support for pro-Russian separatist groups concentrated in eastern Ukraine.
If these things don't happen, then sectoral sanctions will follow," Cameron said. "The next month will be vital in judging if President Putin has taken these steps.
"After meeting Putin on Thursday night, Cameron said he sent a "very clear and firm set of messages" about the crisis in Ukraine and said the status quo was "not acceptable."

One of the most enlightening books I have ever come across was*-The Victory of Reason: How Christianity Led to Freedom, Capitalism, and Western Success*by Rodney Stark.
And at the very end of this book there is a quote from a Chinese scholar who had been part of an investigation into the causes of Western economic success. This is a direct quote of what this Chinese scholar had said:
One of the things we were asked to look at was the success, in fact, the pre-eminence of the West, all over the world. We studied everything we could from the historical, political, economic and cultural perspective.
At first, we thought it was because you had more powerful guns than we had. Then we thought it was because you had the best political system. Next we focused on your economic system. But in the past twenty years we have realised that the heart of your culture is your religion: Christianity.
That is why the West is so powerful.
The Christian moral foundation of social and cultural life was what made possible the emergence of capitalism and then the successful transition to democratic politics. We don’t have any doubt about this.
I was reminded of this by an article in London’s*The Telegraph*with the self-explanatory heading,*China on course to become ‘world’s most Christian nation’ within 15 years. And while you may be sure the Chinese government has been keeping a watchful eye on where this might go, they have also not been attempting to stamp it out. And there are reasons for this, in keeping with that earlier study:
In place of a moral order we now have political correctness and the pagan religion of Gaia and the environment.
Some officials argue that religious groups can provide social services the government cannot, while simultaneously helping reverse a growing moral crisis in a land where cash, not Communism, has now become king. They appear to agree with David Cameron, the British prime minister, who said last week that Christianity could help boost Britain’s “spiritual, physical and moral” state.
Ms Shi, Liushi’s preacher, who is careful to describe her church as “patriotic”, said: “We have two motivations: one is our gospel mission and the other is serving society. Christianity can also play a role in maintaining peace and stability in society. Without God, people can do as they please.”
China, meanwhile, may become a Christian nation as we in the West depart from what may be the single most important part of the inheritance we have.

The number of Christians in Communist China is growing so steadily that it by 2030 it could have more churchgoers than America

Oppression of Christians gets political
When Sen. Rand Paul spoke to the Values Voters Summit*in Washington, the maverick Kentucky Republican told participants that the media and others are continuing to ignore "a worldwide war on Christianity."
Can Christianity In The West Endure?
At the annual gathering of religious leaders and conservative activists last week, Paul raised an often-neglected issue: violence against Christians in many majority-Muslim countries, sadly made worse, in part, by the revolutions of the "Arab Spring."
The facts Paul enumerated are grim.*

This week I write upon returning from a nine day trip with friends to England, where much of my visit centered on an examination the English Reformation. I was fortunate to be exposed to the lessons of history through two groups,Christian Heritage Cambridge*and its spinoff, Christian Heritage London.
These groups focus on reminding Britons and their guests of the influence of Christianity on Western civilization and inspiring and equipping Christians to demonstrate the reasonableness and transforming power of their faith.
Since my wife and I worship in an Anglican Church here in the States, I was particularly interested to learn more about the history of our "mother church," the Church of England. What I found was an incredibly rich history that testifies to the breadth and depth of Christian influence upon the British Isles and upon western civilization as a whole.
We spent most of our time exploring Cambridge, Oxford and London, where Christianity’s influence and impact is abundantly evident.
Cambridge and Oxford are homes to centers of learning with names like Jesus College, Christ's College, Emmanuel College, Magdalene College, All Souls College, and Corpus Christi College. These colleges were inspired by the Christian notion that since the universe was created by a rational being, it would be worthwhile to investigate the principles underlying its order.
Sir Isaac Newton’s life and career is a testament to the power of this belief. A devout but unorthodox Christian, Newton studied at Trinity College in Cambridge and became the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge.
A renowned physicist and mathematician, he formulated the laws of motion and universal gravitation and put to rest the mistaken notion that the earth was the center of the universe.

The Week Europe Died
June 3, 2014*by*Michael Widlanski*75 Comments
You may not have noticed, but, over the weekend, Europe died.
"The First World” basically succumbed to a long illness. It gave up the ghost as an economic force, as a culture and even as a continental political entity.
Here are two very different signs:
Anti-Europe” politicians swept to power in the European Union (EU) parliament on a crest anger at leftist EU bureaucrats who built up layers of regulation of daily life that are unpopular with millions of people;
A well-trained terror squad murdered four people in Brussels, the seat of the EU—only the latest episode of Jew-hatred in Europe’s greatest cities. from London, Paris, Toulouse, Marseilles, Copenhagen
“Oh don’t worry about the Fascists and Right-wingers who won one small election, and don’t get alarmist about one incident of extremism,” say the feel-good crowd, but they are fooling themselves and trying to fool others.
The anti-EU vote in the European Parliament elections is not just a passing phase, and it is not just an eruption of* “fascist,” “nativist”* or “right-wing” emotions.
There is significant anti-EU feeling among responsible and intelligent people in many countries in Europe—people who have seen years of fat-cat EU politicians living in a* fantasy world* of statist theories that leave economic and social chaos.
Greece—a country that endlessly rewards incompetence and then gets bailed out—is a prime example.* Some Greeks get 14 monthly salaries in 12 months.
Official unemployment continues to rise in most European countries—England, France and even Germany—but the real* joblessness has climbed over 20-percent in countries like Spain.* Meanwhile, people in England, France and Germany no longer want to pay pensions for slack workers in Greece and Spain.
Frail European economies and the falling value of the Euro currency are not as disturbing as the collapsing values on the streets of London, Paris, Marseilles, Toulouse, Rotterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Brussels.
Europe’s core cities* have become quite uncomfortable areas if you are not a Muslim immigrant. They are dangerous “no-go-zones” if you are visibly Jewish.

BULL-SHARIA: Italian Girls Fined For Wearing Bikinis on Beach With Muslim Tourists
May 12, 2014 ↔ 82 comments
The encroachment of Sharia Law continues virtually unchecked or, as in this case, aided by a complicit Italian court. It appears that when one goes to the beach in Italy, it is wise to pack a complete wardrobe containing other country beach attire and then conduct a survey of those on the beach to determine the lowest common denominator of flesh to be exposed in order to avoid offending foreigners; Especially rich ones who consider themselves superior to women and the local population in general.
A justice of the peace in*Messina, Italy has fined three girls an amount of approximately $3,500 each for wearing what is considered common beach wear in Italy, based upon the supposed offense to the sensitivities it created for some Saudi Arabian tourists who were also at the private resort of Taormina.
It has become common place for Muslims to make demands upon others to adhere to their standards, so it should not come as too great of a surprise that they filed their complaint. What is surprising is that the Italian court concurred and fined their citizens for engaging in normal behavior.
Until the judges come to their senses, the ladies of Italy should make certain they pack a sheet and a hajib with their towels and sunscreen. It’s a lot less than $3,500.
Here’s an excerpt from the Judgment:
For the purposes of the criminal law shall be deemed obscene acts and objects that, according to common sense, offend modesty (cp 725, 726).
So obscene and common decency are opposing elements, which exist precisely because of their opposition. The shame, feelings of shame, embarrassment, repulsion is typical of the individual when he, against his will, finds himself in front of other people’s events do not correspond to their education and culture, and reputed for its scandalous sex education.
Modesty becomes common sense when human society membership shares the same sensitivity towards the female body which in some Eastern societies if not fully covered may be considered obscene. The reference culture manages the lives of their bodies and every aspect and functionality, the speech also closely linked to sexuality.
This would be obscene indecent assault, as enshrined in Article 527 of the Criminal Code
It ‘important to emphasize that it is obscene that the concept of common decency to not only change over time within a given society, but also change from one company to another. Understanding these concepts refer to the consideration of the body and sexuality.
The girls were the only women to use a similar suit and were aware that all the women of the Muslim faith wearing a swimsuit that fully covered their whole body including the arms and legs.
In this case, the head of the village tour operator in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Chokri Majouli had repeatedly urged, at the request of Muslim parents present, Sig.re – OMISSION – not to be in the pool with quell’abbigliamento he did catch a glimpse of all their effeminate boys present who, having received a religious Muslim education, they were bewildered, stunned and somewhat excited.
He had also explained that in their culture, a similar style of dress was typical of women who practiced prostitution in private homes without having a minimum of feedback and getting just offensive answers.
I condemn aa € 2,582, pursuant to art. 15, L. 24 November 1999 n. 468 and Art. 4 Leg. August 28, 2000, n. 274 (Official Gazette. October 6, 2000, n. 234, SO)
Not only were the girls fined, but they were equated with prostitutes. It’s just more of the same Muslim tolerance on display, everywhere they go.
