I don't believe so, but because of how the whitehouse treated the moderate Katami, that was elected, it's no wonder that it happened.
I remember after he got elected, he wanted to open the dialog with the west, our response was irresponsible and damnable to ignore the moderates.
Perhaps they wanted a radical in there, that is a good possibility.
Another thought is, since they now have a hard liner in there, the west will no doubt start having closer relations with the moderates, supplying them with the means to try to disrupt the present administration.
The west hates dictators and insurgents unless of course their ours.
