Default Police escape injury during Melbourne van blast

It may have started already...

From ABC:

Firefighters say suspicious bags with wires attached were seen in a white van before it burst into flames at Kew in Melbourne's east this morning.

Police escaped injury after the van burst into flames at the Studley Park Boathouse in Kew.

Officers were doing a routine check when they noticed suspicious material in the back of the van in Studley Park Road.

The white van erupted in flames, as they searched the car park for suspects.

The fire brigade's Dick Grant says it is lucky the officers escaped injury, given what was inside the van.

"Bags with wires and matches, match heads bound together," he said.

Bomb squad officers attended the scene and forensic staff are examining what type of explosives may have been used in the blast.
