Default They are starting now!

It's conclusive in this man's eye. The takedown of the internet is in progress as I speak.
Now ask yourself, what would any God fearin Bible totin raht wing wannabe start with first.
So, what do you think they are taking down right now! As part of the Apocalyps Now project I have kept several of the nastiest porn sites in mind as I peruse access times. Guess what, they ain't even there anymore.
Funny too how right wing site come up instantly while progressive and alternate news have been increasingly long access times. Hmm.
Try it. See if your internet service provider has joined the dark side.
See you in the internment camps!

Thinking about it, it’s probably a good thing that the Internet is being taken down. So many people use it for their perverse pleasure and blatant time wasting.

It was a very useful tool.

I have worked in the internet industry for about 8 years now and have watched it grow from one billion documents to what will soon be over one hundred billion. Given government interest (DARPA) in sites like this one and more notably the "blog" portion of the web you should be well equipped to read between the lines here.

Is it entirely illogical to look to the future and see the bloggers out there find themselves assuming the role of the last remaining soldiers in the was on freedom of speech?

Everything that made the web what is used to be is still alive and well out there. It has simply been diluted with ecommerce and the marketing of the large corporations.

This is a vital tool for the entire human race and one we MUST work to protect. This is where so many of us express ourselves and practice our rights to freedom of expression and thought. The internet is so common today, with so many utilizing it... were we to wake up only to find it gone, the entire nation will at last have a collective incentive to collaborate once again as a unified nation to fight for what is rightfully ours. The financial exchange on the internet alone is good enough reason for them to leave it alone since the corporations so heavily rely on it. As for the perversion commonly found on the web, it isn't on the web at all. It's all over the place and always has been and always will be. If not through this medium, it will only show up elsewhere. On aspect of "freedom" that is difficult to accept is that for us to protect our own freedoms, sometimes we must defend those we find ourselves at odds with.

Don't underestimate the power of this tool as it allows us to gather, communicate, and express our rights of freedom to express ourselves. This may save us in the end. You don't think they could just turn it off on us and expect zero reaction?

This is the single most important technology ever known... the world is smaller than ever. The ecomony wouldn't survive were it to be taken from us. I do expect to see more government policing in this area... but they have far too much to gain from letting it continue as is. Consider all of the information they would be throwing away.

It won't happen. The internet is a weapon for them and it is an invalueable tool for us. It is needed on both ends.

I would be very interested in reviewing the traffic logs from this site... see just how monitored this site really is. For all we know, I am posting on a government project website right now. It wouldn't be the first time.

The Bush administration would take us back a hundred years if it could and then there'd be no place like this to express ourselves on.

It will be around... trust me. Too valueable for them to let go of.

Information is more valueable than gold and this is the largest single database of human expression ever to exist. As a data miner, the value in all that is out on the web is beyond priceless.

How anyone could suggest that further loss of the ability to collectively express ourselves is beyond me and I find it disturbing. Keep in mind, this would leave us with our limited television media that works so hard to define your reality. On the web, we are not limited by age, sex, creed, religion, we can hit the back button anytime we wish and have the ability to think for ourselves and avoid the control of the television and radio networks. This is an important part of our remaining freedom... we must protect it!

I agree with you 100% spectre. I’ve never given it much thought, but a lot of what I do wouldn’t be possible without the Internet.

Freedom is a bad thing for the oppressors, so I would expect them to wage war on the Internet very soon, if they haven’t commenced already, and shut down all 'free-thinking' websites/forums. It has been done before.

Yes, in the end I think the Internet will be one of the key factors to our successes in organization. Global solidarity would not be possible any other way, as this is the only ‘free’ medium to have ever been created for the public.

I’ve spoke with a programmer about this, and apparently it is impossible to shut down the internet because of the way its ‘set up’, it sustains its self basically, and there are perhaps millions of plugs to (literally) pull if the internet is to be taken down. I don’t know if this is true or not.

Multi-Highway Internet ??? - :-o :-o :-o

Multi-Highway Internet ???

I agree in that the Internet is to humanity in the 21st Century, what the radio represented to us in the 20th Century.

I agree in that they would like to either remove this tremendous vehicle for the freedom of both expression & thought, or heavily control & censor it.

What I don’t agree w/ is that they want to make us believe that there is only 1 internet, when in fact there can be numerous Internets, all existing at the same time & operating simultaneously & unaware of each other. For example, the same way a radio can transmit in many different channels w/in the FM broadcast spectrum, or in the AM band, the Internet can as well have many “highways” of let’s say “commercial” information, news, etc. Then, other channels for those of us that could care less about pop-ups, or forced ads, etc. We just want to communicate, like we are doing now. The reason they force all types of communications through the same channel is obviously 1 of control for that very powerful medium of communications, which as we have concluded here, “it’s got the power” to transform the human race that is now beyond our comprehension.

To conclude w/ this topic, which is beyond the written page, I’d say that “evil is only done by men consumed by evil thoughts,” & not by any other.

Thank God for "Freedom Of Speech"...
Freedom is to understand, & to be unbounded by that Freedom -
