Federal prosecutors are expected to charge fund-raising felon Norman Hsu with running a $60 million "Ponzi" scheme, sources said today.

The charges against Hsu include claims that the convicted scam artist violated federal campaign finance laws.

A 56-year-old businessman from Hong Kong, [d]Hsu raised money for Sen. Hillary Clinton and other Democrats[/d] and lived in a posh SoHo apartment even though he was a wanted felon.

Last week, Clinton said she would return some $850,000 raised by Hsu after learning that his alleged schemes were the subject of a federal investigation. Manhattan U.S.

Attorney Michael Garcia has scheduled a press conference for this afternoon when the charges against Hsu are expected to be detailed.

Garcia's office declined to provide details or confirm whether Hsu will be charged.

Hsu allegedly pressured investors into donating cash to his favorite political candidates, including Clinton.

Among them is financier Joel Rosenman who claims to have lost $40 million backing a Hsu clothing venture. Rosenman wrote six checks to the Clinton campaign that totaled $8,500, according to campaign finance records Hsu is not expected to appear today in New York to face the charges.

On Wednesday, Hsu appeared in a Colorado court and agreed to head back to California without a fight to face sentencing on a 15-year-old fraud conviction.

Wearing a yellow jail jumpsuit with his wrists cuffed and ankles shackled, he nodded vigorously when his lawyer told a judge that he wanted to waive extradition and return quickly to California.
