A deeply divided Senate committee on Thursday forwarded legislation to the full Senate that reauthorizes three expiring provisions of the Patriot Act hastily adopted in the wake of the 2001 terror attacks.

The measures greatly expanded the government’s ability to spy on Americans in the name of national security.

Thursday’s 11-8 vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee came as lawmakers struggled to beat a looming deadline. The three provisions expire at year’s end, unless renewed.

During more than two hours of sometimes-heated debate in the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee, some lawmakers accused one another of caving to intelligence officials who wanted to expand their powers, while other senators said the renewal was necessary to protect against looming — and classified — terror threats.

But when the hearing was over, the committee approved renewing measures that include allowing broad warrants to be issued by a secretive court for any type of record, from financial to medical, without the government having to declare that the information sought is connected to a terrorism or espionage investigation. A proposal that would put limits on such requests was defeated.

You can't have a war without an enemy. The enemy is Terror, a synonym for fear. There is no enemy, just anybody who wishes to cause fear. Was Charles Manson a terrorist? No, he was a serial killer.

A Terrorist is a person that enacts terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.

Notice how George Bush fits that definition? He WAS a terrorist. He used mass scare tactics to ensure the passing of new restrictive legislature.

We aren't at "war." We are creating the war to remove civil rights. An act of terrorism in and of itself. We are "at war" with another nation. Violating people's freedoms in our own nation to stop a "potential" threat is inexcusable. Especially since there has been only one... which caused less innocent fatalities than the war on terror.

We are at war to keep the "people" safe, but by doing that... we are harming more people than if we were to ignore it ever happened. In this case, the ends don't justify the means, as we are losing more then we are supposed to protect by our own actions. It's 100% hypocritical babble and unlawful and illegal (lawful and legal are =/= meaning they aren't the same thing.)

Protecting people means less people are being injured, not more. So they aren't protecting anybody... they are just exaggerating the problem. No solution makes the problem worse, so therefor the solution to the "Terror" problem isn't to cause more terror. It's manipulation for personal gain, plain and simple.

This is coming from Barrack Obama, the man that won the election on the false pretense that he was going to "bring our troops home." Instead, he's done a full 180º turn around sending more troops to different countries and expanding the patriot act that is unconstitutional to begin with.

In short, you say you give your permission to the government to do anything they see fit to win a "War" that shouldn't exist to begin with. This war is going to last over a hundred years. We could evacuate all innocent people and destroy the country off the face of the world in less than 2. The government has to follow rules and be governed itself by the people of the country. There is no reason to invade the privacy of innocent people. Plain and simple. If you support that, your no better than the terrorists we sought after.

America is supposed to be the land of the free. It's slowly turning into the land of the "Free Range." We are supposed to be free, yet you think we should lose our freedoms because of religious differences we have with another country. This is contrary to freedom, and more in line with slavery. You are giving the country permission to treat you as a slave because we are at war. A war that is projected to last minimum one hundred years.

It's not only religious differences, but how would you feel if another country came over here and bombed and slaughtered our people? You would hate the people committing these acts of war. If we treated them with any kind of respect, maybe they would respect us back.

You think they hit the towers with planes because they hated us for no reason? No, try looking before that and seeing what we have done to them first.
