JUPITER UPDATE: A little more than a month after a mystery-object crashed into Jupiter, the debris cloud is still visible in backyard telescopes. Amateur astronomer Brian Combs of Buena Vista, Georgia, took this picture on August 19th:

I have no clue what the consequences of this GASH that you perceive to exist within Jupiter might be to mankind.

H. There are two effects of “G”:

1) A void is created where mass is being expelled to the top. That void will be filled in by surrounding material, and that material in turn will get sucked out of the void causing a continuous cycle of filling and voiding until the point that equilibrium is once again established at the point of first disruption.

2) The material expelled to the top of Jupiter will fall back down on Jupiter causing an overabundance of mass focused on a relatively small part of Jupiter’s surface. This will cause Jupiter to “indent” inwards at that spot. This will lead to a greater density also which in turn will create heat and turbulence, and possibly lead to cratering at the “dark spot”.

Theo Ramakers writes, "Here is an updated animation containing the images of a large number of dedicated Jupiter imagers, members of the ALPO Jupiter listserve. Hans Joerg Mettig from Jupos.com in Germany converted the submitted images to a polar projection, and I put them together in an animation."
Notice the rather that just spreading out, the original impact site seems to keep pouring out black stuff that then drifts away.
