What is Microsoft doing?

I'm a person that always has my pc settings set so that I dont get automatic updates, expecially from microsoft, but over the past few days the ms icon has been showing up in my task bar informing me that downloads are in process, since I gave no permission for these, I've got to wonder what the hell their putting on my machine.
Is anyone else having the same situation?

Software That Actually Works These Days The Way You'd Expect ??? :-o :-o :-o

Unfortunately Microsoft now has a mind of it’s own & regardless of what the user wants, it goes ahead & performs updates. Try downloading the free version of “Spybot” (i.e., spybotsd13.exe or newer) & then update to the latest. Do a “clean” & after fixing all problems perform an “immunize”, which it usually takes a while before it comes back to you. Don’t interrupt it during the “immunization”, which might seem as though you didn’t do anything, but it is actually working w/o letting you know it’s busy, & select to backup your registry. “Spybot” should also find registry entries that allow Microsoft to spy on you. You can get those deleted by “Spybot”. Bazooka is also a good “Adware, Spyware” finder, but it doesn’t do any removing. You have to follow their instructions & do it yourself manually, however, if you don’t have any more “junk” in your computer, it should come out “No Spyware Detected”, which should give you some sense of peace or confidence. I use “McAfee” for a “virusScan” & a “firewall”. However, there is no “magic bullet” these days for keeping your computer free from unwanted intrusion. Stay away from most unsolicited e-mails & of course, those porn-sites, which do not have any regards for computer users. Most of the people I have helped ridding their computers from viruses had some porn stuff in them. Good luck…

Next Step In Evolution ??? – :-o :-o :-o

The next step in evolution is w/o a doubt is a “spiritual experience”, something a computer will never be able to “experience” as a “whole”. Just as a “box of dominoes” could never feel “enlightened”, or an “animal” for that matter… Computing “speed” is one thing. “Creating” & true “unbound thinking” in another. A computer’s “domain of expertise” is always limited by the set of instructions “we” feed into it. Humans can much faster “adapt” to external changes than any computer could. Just imagine, no one man could ever write a mathematical “equation” describing “the oceans”, at any time, anywhere (at any depth, any temperature, any local, pressure, …, etc.). However, we could most certainly try, for eternity. A computer can only act upon the “equation(s)” fed into it, & nothing else. Even if the equations “seem” to mimic “infinity” of thought. However, the “human” organism, as a whole, is a truly “multi-dimensional” “quantum” computer, & created by the universe itself. That’s why, “we”, can have a “spiritual” experience. We are “infinite”. A computer is not.

Try the Linux operating system if you're having these kinds of concerns about Windows. Linux has come a really long way these past few years and it's a perfectly viable alternative to Windows for most users. The only sticky part is installing it. Installing Linux is easy if you don't mind wiping Windows off your computer, but creating a dual-boot system can be tricky, especially if you want to run both OS's off the same hard drive. I'm not saying that to discourage anyone, but I want people to have a realistic idea of what's involved. I don't want to get blamed if someone accidentally wipes out their hard drive.

Two Linux distros I recommend are:

Debian -

and

Red Hat Fedora -
http://fedora.redhat.com/

Out of the two, Fedora is a bit easier for beginners to install. Suse Linux also has a reputation for being easy to install, though I've never tried it.

Anyone familiar with the COBE project will tell you that the universe itself gets more wrinkled as it grows older. One woefully neglected theory in cosmology is the "Yesterday's News" theory which states that the universe will one day wrinkle up into a ball like and old piece of newspaper.
We humans also get wrinkled as we grow older, so ips facso, we too will shrivel up and die.
Therefore, we will not evolve into multidimetional brainiacs, or whatever.
