Who is "they"? Another artifact of your unstable mental state? Believe it or not, things happen just because they happend. No one is needed for humans to kill other humans.
On a deeper level, if you're looking for the cause of conflict and war, you can look no further then the Tyrant the Christian, Jewish and Muslim fools out there worship. It stands to reason that humans desire to be free of all oppression, even if said Oppressor is a tinpot "God" with a massive ego who wishes to rule the world like some kind of Oriental potentate. Of course, desiring to kiss the ass of YHWH, you'll ignore this and put the blame on some "useful fool" of YHWH's.

Meanwhile, the United State's work force continues to shrink on a daily basis and what is OBAMA doing about it?

What the Hell can he do? Get it through your pointy heads, people: OBAMA IS NOT A GOD OR MESSIAH! He's a man, born of flesh and blood, and he hasn't got any more of a clue what to do then you or I. But then, the mindless masses love Messiahs (see the Third Reich!).

Apparently, all of our efforts in Afghanistan have been for naught.

We can't stop the Taliban.

What does "stop" mean? Kill them all? You need to be more precise in your defining of "stop". Otherwise it's use is meaningless.

My goodness.

What a military industrial complex this group of people are.

Mighter than the US and all of her allies combined.

Pakistan can't stop them either.

Seems our 7-1/2 presence in Afghanistan has only made the Taliban stronger.

Go figure.

Could be they're quite capable of stopping the Taliban, but they don't because they love war/conflict and displacing people.

Again, war is humanities nature. We enjoy killing each other, especially people different then ourselves or who have something we wish to robe them of. Murder is just a normal impulse, and war allows us to kill and loot without having a bad counsciensce. Remember, it is only murder if you kill the guy next door. Smash in the head of an Arab 10,000 miles away who doesn't even know you and it's "war".
As for displacement, thats normal as well. Since we are natural thieves and crooks, we desire what others have, including their land. One can easily see that by exterminating the present occupants, it frees a person to then occupt the now "vacated" land.
No need for "them" either, unless you mean humanity in general.

U.N. says 1.4 million people displaced in Pakistan valley

U.N. says 1.4 million people displaced in Pakistan valley

By Megan Davies Megan Davies – 1 hr 56 mins ago

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – The number of people displaced by fighting in Pakistan's northwestern Swat valley has risen to more than 1.4 million, U.N. humanitarian chief John Holmes said on Monday.

"The situation is volatile and changing rapidly," Holmes told reporters at the United Nations.

He said extra financial resources were urgently needed to deal with the situation and that the United Nations would soon launch an emergency appeal for hundreds of millions of dollars to cover the costs of the refugees over the next 12 months.

Pakistan's government on Sunday urged people stranded by a military offensive against Taliban militants in Swat, an alpine beauty spot 80 miles northwest of Islamabad, to try to get out.

Many civilians are believed to still be inside Mingora, the main town in Swat, after the army launched an offensive more than a week ago to stop the spread of Taliban influence.

Holmes said the number of people displaced by the most recent fighting is more than 1.4 million. That is a total of people registered with the Pakistan authorities, with the help of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), he said.

The U.N. previously said it had registered 1.17 million people displaced by the fighting in the Swat area.

Holmes said that when including at least half a million more displaced by fighting since last August, the total is around 2 million to 2.1 million people.

"This is clearly a major humanitarian challenge for the government and all the aid agencies," said Holmes. "All the agencies are scaling up their efforts and their presence rapidly," he said.

Holmes said that 15-20 percent -- or around 250,000 -- of those registered are in some 24 camps, meaning that most people are with families, in rented accommodations or elsewhere.

UNHCR, which already had a major presence in Pakistan, has been distributing aid from the stocks it already had in the country and helping establish new camps as well as registration centers, Holmes said.

"There will need to be extra resources... and I expect a revised appeal to be published this week," said Holmes.
